“Two Pianos, No Rodeo”

Get ready for an evening of musical exploration as the Canadian Tour 2025-2026 makes a stop in Bancroft.

On Friday, April 24, St. Paul’s United Church will host “Two Pianos, No Rodeo,” a double-bill featuring two of Canada’s most unpredictable keyboard minds: Bob Wiseman and Mike Boguski.

This isn’t your typical piano recital.

It’s a night of “Curated Curiosities”—a dismantling and reimagining of what a solo piano set can be. One piano, two artists, and zero cowboy hats.

Same piano. Different realities.

Curated Curiosities: Piano Life is Hard & Improvising State of Mind

The Players

Bob Wiseman: A founding member of Blue Rodeo, Wiseman is a punk pianist and lo-fi provocateur. Imagine Thelonious Monk meeting William S. Burroughs at a Toronto dive bar. His sets are known for sound collages, biting satire, and sonic left turns where nothing is off-limits.

Mike Boguski: The current Blue Rodeo pianist and an ambient soul explorer, Boguski is a master of restraint and reverie. He treats the piano as a landscape and melody as memory, creating cinematic swells and quiet storms. It is musical cliff-jumping at its finest.

The Night

The concept is simple but daring: each artist takes the same piano and launches in opposite directions. The performances are solo, stripped down, and wide open. Come for the clash of styles and stay for the communion. This is piano as protest, as prayer, and as a deeply personal journey without a safety net.

“Two Pianos, No Rodeo” is for those who like their art live, unexpected, and slightly dangerous. Think of it less like a concert and more like two sonic postcards sent from different planets through the same grand piano.
